Universal H1 Peristaltic Pump Oil for the Food Industry
Optimal lubrication of peristaltic pumps from various manufacturers – successful long-term operation at the first major brewery
Whether bottom-fermented or top-fermented: yeast is delicate and must be handled with care, especially in breweries. This is because it is a crucial ingredient not only for fermentation and alcohol production, but also for the characteristic aroma of each beer. Brewers therefore need these single-celled microorganisms to be in top condition. The peristaltic pumps used for transport are gentle on the yeast, but due to their design, they put a strain on the most important component: the hose. To minimize this wear, we have developed a special oil. This oil has proven effective in test series involving a wide variety of hose materials and has been in use at a major brewery for months. With this product, we offer users of peristaltic pumps an attractive alternative to the lubricants provided by pump manufacturers.
In peristaltic pumps, a tube guided in a semicircle is squeezed by a rotating component on the inner side of its bend in the direction of flow. The resulting alternating constriction of the tube’s cross-section moves its contents - in this case, the yeast suspension - with virtually no destructive shear forces. The tube, as a costly consumable, must last as long as possible. This is because replacing the hose requires opening the closed pumping line, which carries the risk of contamination that could disrupt the entire microbiological balance in the system. Peristaltic pumps are therefore filled with a food-grade oil that reduces friction between the rollers or sliding shoes and the hose surface, dissipates heat to the housing, and thus significantly extends the hose’s service life.
The peristaltic pump oil ELKALUB LFC 800 offers an ideal alternative to the more expensive lubricants offered by peristaltic pump manufacturers: With our NSF H1-registered specialty oil ELKALUB LFC 800, we offer an alternative for all common pump hoses used in the food industry, which are typically made of natural rubber, acrylonitrile rubber, or thermoplastic elastomers. In intensive comparative tests, we treated hoses from various manufacturers with their original oils as well as with our ELKALUB LFC 800 over many days at different temperatures. The test results show that our pump oil is fully compatible with hoses from the leading suppliers.
A large brewery in southern Germany, which uses a two-digit number of yeast peristaltic pumps, is already convinced of the benefits of ELKALUB LFC 800.
