Speed and Precision: Lubricants for Offset Printing Presses

Offset printing presses are masterpieces of mechanical engineering. Web offset presses print and fold at extremely high speeds, while sheetfed offset presses impress with their micrometer-level precision in multicolor printing.

No matter the type of press – productivity is always the top priority. Every minute of downtime, every sheet of waste paper costs money.

Offset printing machines: ELKALUB lubricants ensure precision, high printing speeds, and reduce downtime and waste.

Lubricants from the Printing Specialist

ELKALUB lubricants are the top choice for offset printing presses and are used worldwide in machines manufactured by Heidelberger Druckmaschinen, Koenig & Bauer, Komori, manroland Goss, manroland sheetfed, and Ryobi.

ELKALUB lubricants accompany the machines from assembly through initial setup and commissioning, and serve as maintenance supplies for their entire service life. Thanks to our close relationships with manufacturers, we can tailor our products to specific machines as early as the development stage. These machines are becoming faster and running hotter, thereby requiring ever-improving lubricant qualities.

We provide advice on the optimal use of our ELKALUB lubricants through direct customer contact. This also includes standardizing the lubricant portfolio for mixed machine fleets in the pressroom as well as in post-press operations.

For packaging printers operating in hygiene-sensitive sectors such as food, animal feed, toys, or pharmaceuticals, we offer the full range of food-grade lubricants, including those with NSF H1 registration.

Global Quality

ELKALUB lubricants are available worldwide through our distributors. Selected product lines are also offered by machine manufacturers as consumables or service items.

Since our customers repeatedly report counterfeit versions of our original products, we recommend purchasing through official distribution channels. If you have any doubts regarding the origin or authenticity of a product, please contact us.

FAQ on ELKALUB Lubricants for Offset Printing Presses

Unfortunately, lubricant fling-off can only be minimized. In addition to using a suitable ELKALUB lubricant, it is helpful to lubricate sparingly and clean thoroughly after the machine has started up.

A well-maintained boom chain will last for the entire service life of a printing press. Cleaning it involves a great deal of manual labor and requires a suitable product. ELKALUB FLC 675 R+S is effective against powder and paper dust and leaves a thin film of oil for preservation and initial lubrication when the machine is started up.

When it comes to gear or circulating oils, switching to an ELKALUB oil is no problem at all. When changing grease, it is important to replace the old grease in the lubrication point as completely as possible (approx. 90%) with the new ELKALUB grease. For open lubrication points (e.g., cam rollers), the replacement process can be easily observed; for closed lubrication points, it is advisable to seek technical clarification beforehand.

In our experience—yes! Some machine manufacturers specify shorter relubrication intervals for H1 lubricants. With careful monitoring and by gradually extending the intervals, maintenance intervals can almost always be reduced to the standard level.

ELKLALUB lubricants can often be used across different manufacturers and machines. Experience has shown that the lubricant portfolio can often be reduced by half; in many printing plants, for example, 2 to 3 greases are sufficient for the entire machine fleet.
